Luxury vinyl for your floors

Luxury vinyl is the best-selling hard surface flooring today and for good reason. The state of the art imaging technologies and manufacturing have created aesthetics that mimic real wood and real stone, where you will be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Luxury vinyl comes in two formats: planks and tile. Planks are known as LVP or luxury vinyl planks and these mimic in detail and touch wood floor's look. You can find widths and lengths of all sizes to suit the look or style you want. In fact, every color, every species is represented in LVP. LVT or luxury vinyl tile simulate tile and real stone. As with planks, you will find sizes in luxury vinyl tile that are realistic and even have the veining of natural stone.

At California Carpet, we know luxury vinyl flooring and we know it well. We have been serving the Bay Area in flooring needs for 30 years, through our showroom in San Francisco. Customers come from Oakland, Berkeley, Mill Valley and Piedmont for our expertise and prices.

Manufacturing is key for luxury vinyl

This type of flooring has four different layers that are bonded together: The top layer is an aluminum oxide or urethane, below that is a photographic film layer; on top of a vinyl color layer which is fused to a resilient vinyl backing. The top layer is called the mil layer or wear layer and reflects the durability quotient of the product. At the high end and for commercial applications, that level is above 20-mil and can be as high as 40-mil. Of course, for residential it is less and 10-mil is a good number.

This durability along with easy cleaning and upkeep rival its fashion-forward design sensibilities.

Installing your luxury vinyl flooring

This floor can be installed glued down or floating. Floating floors are a great and easy installation through a click together method. It can be installed over existing floors if the surface is relatively unmarred.

Luxury vinyl floors are all waterproof. This is a great feature that allows the installation in the kitchen, bathrooms, mudrooms, and basements...rooms where moisture and spills and even floods can occur. In fact it is a great floor for homes with pets, as incidents happen and are easily cleaned.
